Transformer Replacement Possible in Gerolstein

Extensive renovation and repair work is currently being carried out at the Gerolstein Container Terminal (CTG) by Peter Hausmann & Co. Bauunternehmung GmbH. A transformer transfer station is being constructed on Track 21 at the CTG to facilitate the transport of transformers for the construction of the new Rommersheim substation by the grid operator Amprion.

Over a length of approximately 90 m, new track components—including S49 E1 rails, bolted grooved rails, and B70 concrete ties—will be installed. In the area of the transformer substation, the track will be backfilled with concrete, tamped until it reaches a stable position, aligned, and compacted (“Dresden-style track superstructure”). This will allow road vehicles to travel on this section in the future.

To install transformers, a transformer transfer foundation is built into the track. This is necessary to support the localized load of the transformer during the transfer process.

In addition, the sets of ties for turnouts Nos. 16, 18, and 22 on the approach track will be replaced.
