Kohl Takes the Helm at the Freight Railway

In anticipation of the start of in-house production, Frachtbahn Traktion GmbH has restructured its management: Shareholder Reinhard Bamberger is moving from operational management to the supervisory board; Ulrich Puz (formerly of SCHIG) has been managing director since May, and Volker Kohl (47) will take over in June. Among other roles, Kohl served as an authorized signatory and operations manager at TX Logistik Austria starting in September 2007, and as managing director of Lokomotion Austria GmbH from October 2014 through spring 2020, where he was succeeded by Stefan Jarosch.

Dr. Stefan Jarosch
Head of Finance & Controlling

Kohl does, after all, have operational experience that neither Puz nor Kazalek have. Frachtbahn already operates some services under MMV and Cargoserv, which is probably why the MMV photo is in the ÖVZ.

ÖBB, LTE, ELL: Joint Workshop

ÖBB-Technische Services GmbH (ÖBB TS), LTE Logistics & Transport Europe (LTE), and ELL European Locomotive Leasing (ELL) are forming a joint venture with ETL Lokservice GmbH to establish and operate a service center for locomotives.

The new hub in Gramatneusiedl, southeast of Vienna, is located at the intersection of international rail freight corridors.

Starting in the fall of 2021, modern locomotives will be maintained there in a facility with an area of approximately 1,000 m² and four work bays. The three partners bring different areas of expertise to the table: LTE and ELL contribute their modern locomotive fleets, while ÖBB TS brings its many years of expertise as an established and professional rail vehicle maintenance provider.

Among the major locomotive leasing companies, ELL’s competitors already have their own repair shops: Akiem acquired mgw Service, which operates a repair shop in Krefeld; Railpool took over the northrail repair shop in Hamburg; and MRCE and Siemens opened the Locomotive Workshop Rotterdam (LWR) in 2019.

Freight Railway Names New CEO

At Frachtbahn GmbH, a sister company of Westbahn Management GmbH, Ulrich Puz has been appointed managing director and will serve in this capacity alongside Florian Kazalek, who has held this position previously. The previous managing director, Reinhard Bamberger, is moving to the advisory board. Puz most recently served as managing director at Schieneninfrastruktur Dienstleistungsgesellschaft (SCHIG) for ten years. (er)

Gasoline with MMV and DB Cargo

MMV-Rail Austria Ges.m.b.H. and DB Cargo have been jointly transporting gasoline from Vienna (OMV Lobau Tank Farm) to Munich-Milbertshofen since April 6, 2020. The trains operate on a twice-weekly round-trip schedule; the Siemens Vectron MS electric locomotive leased by ELL from MMV remains attached to the train throughout the entire journey starting from Vienna Stadlau (where it is taken over from Rail Cargo Austria AG (RCA)).

No More Containers in East-West Trains to Rotterdam

In the last quarter of 2019, container transport via E-trains came to an end. The train carried coal (ore?) from EMO Rotterdam to the voestalpine steelworks in Linz and was partially loaded with containers on the return trip. These shipments are now handled via Hamburg. The containers are unloaded at Eurokombi and then transported to Hansaport for loading. The containers are unloaded from the Eurokombi and then transported to Hansaport for loading. Since June 2019, the ore for voestalpine in Linz has been handled almost entirely at the Port of Hamburg. This date also marked the near-complete end of ore shipments to and from Neuss and Rotterdam (only one train pair is believed to remain). To the best of my knowledge, container services in E-cars are currently limited to KT 47930 XALSH – AWHOS on Mon/Tue and KT 47932 XALSH – AM S on Thu/Fri.
